The third year of the course builds on the foundation of the second year and allows students to further develop their specialist knowledge. In addition to working with industry partners, students have the opportunity to work on special projects. They also develop a self-directed proposal for a project of their choice. This project will include working on private commissions and will provide students with professional practical experience. In addition, students will take part in a Graduate Fashion Show.
Students will learn to use Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop for textile design. They also learn color mixing principles and the technical aspects of dyeing and printing. Students will be taught how to interpret trend information and create original designs. They will also have the opportunity to work on their own fashion and textile projects and produce printed presentations for their portfolios.
The advanced class builds on students' existing knowledge of Illustrator and Photoshop, and focuses on color management and professional workflow. Students will also learn how to produce designs for repeat production for the fashion fabrics market. They will also explore complex weave structures and prepare for digital production. The course will include the use of advanced materials for sustainable solutions to real-world challenges.
The TFD major focuses on designing woven and printed fabrics for the fashion and home furnishings industry. Students are given the opportunity to work with international companies. The course also offers the option of a semester abroad. During this semester, students participate in study trips to fashion and textile-related locations in the world. They also develop their technical skills through practical experience and workshops.
